Juan Manuel Guevara
Conductor | Double Bassist | ProfessorJuan Manuel Guevara is an accomplished double bass player, conductor, and professor with a passion for sharing the transformative power of music. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Juan began his musical journey in the renowned "El Sistema," earning a Bachelor's Degree in Performance from the Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Artes (UNEARTE) and later completing a Master’s Degree at the Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain, as a scholarship recipient for his outstanding talent.As a member of the prestigious Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, Juan performed in some of the world’s most iconic venues, including Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Royal Albert Hall (BBC Proms), Lucerne Festival, and Salzburg Festival. He has collaborated with legendary conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel, and others, enriching his artistry through these remarkable experiences.In Portugal, Juan has played with leading orchestras, including the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra do Norte, and Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras. His dedication to performance is matched by his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians through his work as a professor.Juan’s journey into conducting began in 2020 under the mentorship of Spanish maestros Miguel Romea and Andrés Salado at the Opus 23 Conducting Academy. His skills were further honed at the 3rd International Conducting Masterclass led by Douglas Bostock, and in 2022, he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Zana Batuta Orchestra. His recent highlights include serving as assistant conductor to Maestro Miguel Romea for Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Orquestra Sinfónica ESART in Castelo Branco, Portugal.Today, Juan continues to inspire audiences and students as a performer, professor, and conductor across Portugal and Spain. With a deep belief in the unifying power of music, he strives to create meaningful connections through every note and gesture.
