Biography

Juan Manuel Guevara is known as both a double bass player and conductor. He is currently the principal conductor of the Zana Batuta Orchestra in Portugal.Trained in "El Sistema," Juan is a former member of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with renowned artists such as Gustavo Dudamel, Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel, and Esa-Pekka Salonen.Juan has graced the stages of numerous prestigious venues: Carnegie Hall, BBC Proms, Lucerne Festival, Salzburg Festival, Berlin Philharmonie, and Amsterdam Concertgebouw, among others.He graduated from Berklee College of Music, earning a Master's Degree in Contemporary Performance. His passion for conducting led him to study under the guidance of esteemed Spanish conductors Miguel Romea and Andrés Salado at the Opus 23 conducting academy. He further honed his skills through masterclasses with the distinguished English conductor Douglas Bostock.In May 2023, Juan had the honor of serving as the assistant director to Maestro Miguel Romea in the production of G. Mahler's Fourth Symphony with the Orquesta Sinfónica ESART in Castelo Branco, Portugal.Currently, Juan continues to immerse himself in musical endeavors in Portugal and Spain while pursuing further growth and knowledge in conducting under the guidance of Maestro Miguel Romea.
